You want to write an intriguing ad or a free report where people are willing to give their contact information in order to read more. There are whole lists of popular phrases to help you write a good headline. Next you will write about the benefits of your product, service, or opportunity which provides a solution to their problem. If you don't offer the right benefits they will stop right there and leave your page. You can tell a gripping story or write about how it changed your life. There are good template outlines where you fill in the blanks and get a better written article. You then need to write a call to action that compels them to respond. Usually a good call to action offers some type of reward such as a free report with more information, a free gift or an offer of some sort.
Other Uses of Copywriting Skills
Once someone opts into your site and you are finally able to talk to them, you need to have a written presentation and closing script. That also takes writing skills. You don't really want to read it to them word for word or you will not sound natural. You should follow your general outline though in order to share the same information every time and make your points more quickly and efficiently. People can call you at any time of the day and you can get on board more quickly by grabbing your prewritten script. Practice beforehand to give yourself more confidence. Don't forget to include some questions for them to answer in order to get a feel for their interest or needs. Also share some information about yourself in order to make a connection with them and establish some common ground.
Closing skills is an art in itself and can work differently for each customer. Have several scenarios written out beforehand. After a while you will get a feel for which ones work best for different types of customers. I like the "dream with me scenarios" and the "best case/worst case scenario". There are many more ways to close such as using a limited time offer or making a special one-time offer.
