Social Media is no doubt doing wonders to several businesses for earning goodwill and building a strong network. By being innovative at social media sites, it gets easy to nurture relations with existing clients and reach to new prospects. However, there are certain do's and don'ts for following, which in return guarantee success in promoting business via social media.
  • Do: At first, make sure that you select the social media network according to the prospects and customers. If your company is dealing with professional services, then B2B or business-to-business communication tools or networking sites like Twitter or LinkedIn would be helpful. On the other hand, if the products/services offered by your company are for direct customers, then preferably go for B2C or business-to-consumer communication tools like Facebook and Twitter. Also, for the industry like retail, fashion, or decor, where visual & designing matters, Pinterest works best.
  • Don't: Several business owners make an easy choice by targeting customers on Facebook, due to its easy usability features. However, one ought to be careful with it specially while identifying the proper media as per the nature of the business. Accordingly, one must target upon the focus and plan social activities.
  • Do: With social media, it is possible to make proactive communication with both existing clients as well as pursuing prospects. One has to go ahead with proper plans (depending upon the business) for how to reach the customers effectively & efficiently. For example, posting videos on 'how' & 'why' about the product is useful for consumers.
  • Don't: In case there is a negative comment on any post or upload, you should not limit your response. It is important to come up with the proper reply & dissolve any sort of confusion.
  • Do: Being consistent is important; so make regular posts on social networking sites. You can chose a convenient time, like, once in a week or once in a day; but it is important that content posted is fresh, as this would boost rankings with search engine.
  • Don't: Never move ahead without the proper plan for time schedules as well. In case of busy periods, the momentum might be killed.
Social media, as said above, is highly prospective. Therefore, when investing the time in it, ensure sure that you post quality content. Anyhow, if you find certain errors at any point, then carefully handle them to resolve the issue. For example, by chance you post a negative or offensive comment, then do ask for apology & rectify your mistakes; also when you promote a wrong or broken links, then immediately fix the errors, when identified. Always remember that once a subject is online, it is there forever.
Additional Tip: Google emphasizes Google+ content on its search results; therefore using Goggle+ media tool would be helpful.
