Today many young people are discouraged from pursuing a career in English but from what I can see writing and composition are probably the most lucrative skills on the internet. I'm not talking about proper grammar and spelling. I'm talking about your ability to communicate effectively, the ability to project your passion and intentions to others.

Some of the most well paid jobs on the internet involve writing. Sales letters, emails and blogs are all powerful tools on the internet and the ability to write compelling content is a very lucrative skill. In reality the art of influential communication has always been very important to us in society. All of the great leaders had a gift for communicating their message and their passion to the masses.

Reading is the best way to become a better writer and a better communicator. Of course you must read content that is well written and delivers a powerful message. Most books are written in a style that is much more formal than an email or a blog. Some books have complicated language, are difficult to decipher and often require you to read them more that once to understand the meaning of the content.

Your goal as a content writer for the internet is to use everyday language and make your message clear. If people have to read your content more than once you will surely have lost their interest. The attention span of people on the internet is very short.

In order to get and keep the attention of your internet audience there are a few quick tricks that you can incorporate into your copy writing.

1. Use a short attention grabbing line to capture the interest of your readers.

2. Use lots of white space and short lines to break up your content and make it easy to read.

3. Create a personal and emotional connection with your readers by telling a story.

When people are reading content on the internet they have a hard time making the connection that there is a real person who is writing the material.

Don't let anyone tell you that English skills are no longer of any use to you in the business world. English and the power of the written language are as powerful today as it has always been. Even though we are reading less books than we used to reading is more a part of our daily existence than it ever was before. So encourage your children to read and write. These skills are in great demand in our virtual world today.
