Is It Time to "Fire My Boss?"

It's exciting and scary all at the same time. Are you ready to pull the trigger?

Your start up home business is really taking off, you have a good amount of leads coming in, but you are not quite matching your income from your day job. The revenue stream is increasing and even surpassing your expectations. The problem though is you are running out of time.

Juggling your growing home venture and your "day" job is like trying to juggle ping pong balls in a hurricane. There is just too many distractions at home to be efficient, your job, your home business, kids/spouse and you cannot forget---Time for you. You are becoming so torn that you are not being productive at any of them. You are beginning to wonder if its time to "Fire the boss" and really increase the revenue coming from the new venture.

Is it time to give up your day job and invest that time in your home-based business?

Do you have a plan? Here are some suggestions and thoughts to help you make that decision. Do you have a reserve of about 3 months' worth of living expenses? Do you have health insurance at the day job? Would they allow you to do your day job part-time? Do you have the space for an office, the needed office equipment, or child-care arrangements?

OK so now you have the information needed to make a change but have you even considered the thought of failure? None of us like to have these thoughts but they are necessary. Have you set timelines and income goals to know when it's going to make it or not? These are not pleasant thoughts but necessary ones to equip you for the future. At what point does the new venture match your current income? If these goals are not being met but are sufficient to keep you going you may want to consider part time work to supplement your income for a short period. The ultimate desire of being your own boss can be worth the struggle!

Can you effectively evaluate your strengths and weaknesses? One MUST know thyself! Can you work well alone? Can you tolerate hours of being the only one "in the office"? Are you disciplined enough to set office hours and honor them? If not you may want to practice this as a part timer for a little longer. Do you need additional skills before the launch, such as spreadsheet skills or bookkeeping skills? Can you handle the marketing, or do you need to farm that out and if so at what cost?

Yes it's scary but so are spiders. Fear can motivate or debilitate. This is more the factor than financials many times. In the beginning the demon to overcome is "self doubt". This is another way that fear expresses itself and stops weaker people from taking the plunge. Can you overcome the fear of self doubt? This is simply an issue of you not valuing yourself enough. You have value and skills or you would not be at this point in your life. After assimilating all of this information now is the time to put you "big girl/boy" pants on and make it happen!
